McAfee Antivirus Review

McAfee is one of the best internet security suites available. It offers a top malware scanner as well as many features that include password manager, VPN, and file shredder for a reasonable cost. It can also cover the majority of devices in a single subscription.

McAfee is a reliable program however, it can slow down your computer at times. Tests conducted by AV-Comparatives revealed that a full scan of our test computer’s 366,872 files took approximately an hour and consumed 3.20% of its processor memory; this was at the middle of the pack. A quick scan took just eight minutes to scan the areas where viruses are the most likely to be discovered, such as system files and registry entries.

The tech support provided by the company is excellent. It provides a community forum and 24/7 phone and chat support, as and a massive knowledge base. It also offers a virtual assistance tool and a tool to assess the vulnerability of your device. To reach a customer support agent, you must fill out a long form that includes your name first name, last name, telephone number and email address. You also have to verify both.

McAfee’s siloing of its features into different applications is frustrating. For example, the Windows version of McAfee Total Safety has an in-app help section; however, the Mac application redirects you to the website, and doesn’t allow you to look up answers. This makes it much more difficult to navigate the parental controls and the protections against identity theft than other total protection packages.
